The one & only Gingerbread recipe

You can almost taste the festive season, only by looking at these mouth watering Christmas cookies. Impress your friends and family by baking the real Scandinavian deal. Which is really easy with this simple gingerbread recipe.

Gingerbread ingredients

The list of ingredients is fairly long, but making the cookies is as easy as pie. You’ll need:

1/3 cup molasses
1/2 cup softened butter
3/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons water
2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice

Gingerbread recipe

First you mix the butter and brown sugar until it’s light and fluffy. Add and mix the molasses, egg and water. Combine flour, ginger, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice and add these to the mixture. Cover the dough and put it in the fridge for about half an hour.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celcius. Sprinkle some flour on the counter and roll out the dough until it’s about 0,5 cm thick. Cut the dough with a cookie cutter and place the cookies on a tray with baking paper. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes and let them cool before you decorate them.
