Boutique Hotel Van Cleef: Bruges’ hidden gem of luxury

Are you looking for a grand place to stay in Bruges? Well, look no further. The Nomads have discovered a true hidden gem of luxury, just in the heart of the Belgium city of love. Boutique Hotel Van Cleef is beautifully situated close to the touristic attractions of Bruges, yet is still surrounded by a very calming and serene scenery.

Hotel van Cleef

The impressive mansion has been called home to the various Counts and Dukes of the Belgium Van Cleef dynasty. Today, The Van Cleef is transformed to a perfect little haven of luxury. This stylish boutique hotel is a perfect mix of classical and contemporary but never misses the good ol’ fashioned golden standard of hospitality. The Van Cleef doesn’t feel like one of many hotels, but aims to gives its guests the feeling of a private residence. And boy, do they succeed.

Missoni and Hermès

Pascale Vanhaecke-Marcantuoni, owner of the Van Cleef hotel, has made a name in the decorating industry for interiors. Her talents are clearly visible in the interior of the hotel, where you can find a mix of elegance, dynamic and creativity, all within a perfect balance. Her son Arnaud was of great assistance in the proces of decorating the Van Cleef. The rooms in the hotel are decorated with the exclusive home fabrics of Missoni and Hermès Maison and couldn’t possibly give a more luxurious comfort during your stay. As may be expected from a boutique hotel with such grandeur, many room- and inhouse services and facilities are available to the guests of the Van Cleef. It is therefore with perfectly good reason that they won the Belgian Hospitality Award for “Best Hotel Concept” in 2015.

The reception area is wonderfully decorated with a bold choice of combining the printed wallpaper and the very eye-catching fabrics of the sofa. Us Nomads love it! The comfortable carpeting and rug on the floor gives the space a very homey and welcoming feeling.

Guests enter Hotel van Cleef at the exact same spot carriages used to enter the coach house in the olden times. Imagine the stories the floors and the walls could tell…
Upon arrival we were very kindly greeted and offered a drink in the bar. After a 2,5 hour drive, who could say no? The fresh Bellini’s and amuses were above all expections and gave us such a welcoming feeling, which still put a smile on our face while reminiscing.
The bar is decorated in a deep emerald colour and has a rich (and a kind of a Gatsby-esque) vibe going on.
After enjoying our Bellini’s, we made our way to our room. We were staying at the Karel de Stoute suite, which you are lead to by private stairs heading from the reception area.
As every room in the hotel, this suite is also decorated in a very stylish way and is filled with luxurious Missoni textiles.
The enormous bed is at least as comfortable as it looks and because of that it was quite hard to get up in the morning to start the day and explore Bruges.
Having seen many luxurious hotel bathrooms, this one stood out for a reason. Not only was our bathroom equipped with a whirlpool (which was divine!), it felt very homey. And that is worth mentioning. Is it because of the plant next to the bath? It might be. But the thing that really worked magic, was the scent of the towels and bathrobes. Such a fresh and clean perfume that made us feel at home at once.
Not only was the mirror big enough and did the owners think of a make-up mirror (thank you for that), what really contributed to the comfort of home, were the ceramic bathroom accessories.
After a wonderful evening in romantic Bruges and a good snooze after a warm bubble bath, we woke up next morning with hungry and curious tummies. Luckily, fresh coffee and fruits were waiting for us.
Breakfast is served in the Green Room, where you’ll find yourself surrounded by an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art. On warm and sunny days, breakfast is also served on the hotel’s terrace, right next to the canal.

You will be spoiled with a wide variety of freshly squeezed juices, coffee and teas, homemade jams and marmelades and an amazingly tasty cheese and cold cut platter.

The hotel’s own Patisserie Prestige takes care of the freshly baked rolls, Danish pastries and crispy croissants. A perfect start of the day!

More about our stay at the Van Cleef will follow soon, so stay tuned to discover the amazing interiors of this fine and dandy boutique hotel in Bruges.
